THE SITUATION

The NATIONAL WINDRUSH MONUMENT

The National Windrush Monument, created by Basil Watson, pays tribute to the dreams, ambition and resilience of the Windrush pioneers who arrived in Britain after the Second World War and the generations that followed over the years. The design is based in Waterloo Station and stands as a testament to those who landed in Britain to help rebuild the country, as well as to lay a foundation for their families and their future, influencing and contributing to every aspect of British society.

THE PROBLEM

Windrush solely became associated with the ‘scandal’ versus the incredible individuals who travelled to the UK, and their descendants who have directly contributed to making the UK a better country.

SOLUTION

A new statue with accompanying QR Codes to easily learn more about the Windrush Generation, the National Windrush Monument, and how Windrush Day is celebrated across the country.

RESULTS

The associated website provides more detail into why the monument was created and what the statue design represents. It is used by schools, colleges, the british caribbean community and the wider population.
